F.A.Q.

DO YOU HAVE TO REMOVE MY EXISTING RAILINGS?

Absolutely not!  Replacing your wooden balusters with new iron balusters is almost as simple as it sounds.  We simply take out you existing balusters, and install new iron balusters in the exact same locations.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE BEFORE YOU START?

As soon as you approve your final estimate, we will order your balusters.  The balusters normally take 7-10 days to arrive our our office.  After receiving and inspecting your balusters, we will contact you to schedule installation --- normally within the next 1-2 weeks.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO INSTALL MY BALUSTERS?

The vast majority of our jobs are done in less than a day.  Only larger jobs (80+ balusters) may require a second day of work.

HOW ARE THE NEW BALUSTERS SECURED?

Unlike traditional wood balusters, which are nailed in place, iron balusters are installed using a two-part epoxy.  The epoxy is injected into both the top and bottom holes that the baluster rests in.  The epoxy is clear, odorless, and very strong.

WILL MY RAILINGS BE AS STABLE AS BEFORE?

Yes, they will be equally stable, if not more so.  The two-part epoxy that we use creates a bond with the baluster that can not be replicated by a nailed wooden baluster.  If we have concerns about your railing, we will consult with you prior to removing your existing balusters.

HOW MESSY IS INSTALLATION?

Very little --- a minimal amount of sawdust is created when removing the existing wood balusters, and we vacuum that up as soon as all the balusters have been removed.  We cut the new iron balusters outside, or perhaps in your Garage, depending on the weather. Cutting iron balusters makes almost no mess at all. It is very important to us that your home looks as neat when we leave as it did when we got there.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR THE EPOXY TO DRY?

The epoxy we use is generally dry (or "cured") within 1-2 hours.  However, we usually ask the customer to not disturb the new balusters for at least 12 hours to insure that they are fully cured.
